If a client comes to see us with back pain what we should do is to see is the whole person and not the problem. As we know from many recent studies back pain is not a purely physical problem. In Feldenkrais jargon we would say that it is something concerning the whole-self.

This is especially true of clients with asymmetric back pain. On a purely physical level what we want to work with is the quadratus lumborum, the ilium, the psoas, the pyramidalis, the deep and the superficial erector spinae muscles, the muscles on the anterior and lateral side of the trunk, all its posterior, anterior and lateral muscles in the neck, the bones of the pelvis and of course the diaphragm.

But to really work effectively we need to see the whole person and understand the person’s back pain in relation. This is what makes our work different from other methods.

Mara Fusero, Feldenkrais trainer and psychologist with a doctorate in physiotherapy will show us her approach in working with asymmetrical back pain in this 5-day Feldenkrais advanced training in Munich. We will mostly work with Functional Integration but also explore related ATM lessons.
